More About Kat
I’m Kat, a psychologist with more than twenty years of experience in human services, including fifteen years working in psychotherapy. Over that time, I’ve supported people with a wide range of challenges and life experiences, and I bring a depth of understanding and practical expertise to the therapy room.
Here’s a few of my ‘guiding principles’ that might give you a sense for what to anticipate if working with me:
- Therapy only works if the client-therapist relationship works. I’m a straightforward, open, curious, occasionally-funny human and I truly love this work. I place considerable importance on my clients feeling safe and seen in therapy.
- I believe that symptoms are signals and that a huge part of my job is supporting people to slow down and listen to these signals. To shift from a model of ‘illness’ to one in which we trust that the mind and body are trying to communicate.
- People thrive when their life reflects their values. Finding happiness isn’t about feeling good or escaping the hard stuff, as much as it’s about living a life that’s authentic, meaningful and full of the things that make you ‘you’.
- Healing takes place in a context of safety and compassion. Healthy relationships with others and most importantly an accepting and kind relationship with yourself are key in good psychological health.
- Life works better when you spend time amongst trees, appreciating clouds and in the company of animals.
Experience and Training
I have worked across diverse settings, including disability support, child protection, hospital Mother–Baby Unit, and private psychology clinics.
